National Emergency/ Disaster Management Authority: Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief at the Ministry of Defence

The disaster management system (“civil protection”) in Slovenia encompasses the protection of people, animals, property, cultural heritage and the environment against Natural and other Disasters (including state of emergency and war situations).

The tasks of the Administration pertain to the management, preparation and operation of the system for protection againts Natural and other Disasters;

• the provision of assistance to affected local communities;
• monitoring, notification and warning;
• communications and the information system;
• the assessment of damage caused by natural and other disasters;
• fire protection and the operation of general rescue services;
• the organisation and operation of the Civil Protection Service and the preparation and operation of the Civil Protection Headquarters;
• the preparation and execution of national programmes in the field of protection from Natural and other Disasters;
• and disaster relief and post-disaster remediation.

The responsibilities for the disaster management system lie with:

• citizens and residents;
• non-governmental organizations involved in activities relevant to the protection against Natural and other Disasters;
• public rescue services;
• commercial companies, institutions and other organizations;
• local communities and
• the State.
